Have been hearing things about the benefits of strength training? Maybe you have realised that you don't feel as strong as you once did. Stronger bones and more muscle mass sounds good. But you hate the idea of going into the gym, and if you did go, you wouldn't know where to start.
Imagine this instead, coming into a yoga studio in a small group of max 9 students. We have a warmup and then you get on with lifting your weights. We start with light weights and then over time slowly progress you to lifting heavy. There are two teachers there to instruct and guide you and then at the end you get a cool down and a rest. It's a relaxed supportive atmosphere where everyone is on their own path to gaining strength. Most of the students are women and over 50.
Several years ago I started to realise that what I was doing in my yoga practice just wasn't enough. I had issues with my back and I could feel that if I didn't do something different then what I was able to do was going to get smaller and smaller. I wasn't ready to give up gardening so I started strength training. I started training with a physio and soon roped my best friend Margaret in as well. We both caught the bug and did a training with Kathryn Bruni-Young of Mindful Strength. I trusted Kathryn because for years I had been listening to her podcast, and knew she was a yoga teacher before becoming a strength coach and was also saying that you didn't have to wait until all your injuries were gone before strength training.
In January 2023 Margaret and I started our Intro to Strength Training courses and we have been blown away by the dedication and progress of the students who have joined us. We now have four sessions a week to accomodate everyone and some people even come twice a week. I couldn't be more passionate about the benefits of strength training. Gaining strength and muscle mass improves our bone density, can help regulate blood sugars, has cognitive benefits and improves balance. Our students have reported back that they find it easier going about their daily lives, they have more energy and really enjoy the challenge the practice brings. You can build strength at any age!
Now instead of dedicated Intro courses we are just bringing new students into the existing group and training you alongside the experienced lifters. We get you to commit to an 8 week session of classes so that you can get the fundamentals in place. Intro spots are available Thursdays at 6pm, 7pm and Saturday 9am. Book your spot with the link below and we will be in touch to book your time slot.
