Nicole MinogueWhile growing up on a wild jewel island on the west coast of Canada, it was clear that Nicole was not likely to take a straight or conventional path in life. Creating with her hands, travel and nature have been recurring themes in what brings joy into her life. It was in the midst of training to be a costumer that Nicole first stepped onto a yoga mat in 2001. As someone never interested in sports, it took her by surprise how much she connected with moving her body in this way. Over the next ten years, yoga became more prominent in her life; in fact it was often the only thing that kept her grounded amidst the madness of designing dance costumes.

On her fourth trip to India she met her partner John, who had plans to open a yoga studio in Belfast. So in 2011, Nicole completed her first Teacher Training, sold her things and moved across the world for love. Since then she has been privileged to be part of building a yoga community at Abhyasa Yoga.
Nicole’s teaching encourages self-compassion and a playful spirit of enquiry, whether that is through strengthening vinyasa or more gentle restorative practices. While it will always be the bedrock of her own practice that shines through in her classes, she has become a Somatic Exercise Coach and completed a 500 hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training course with Lisa Petersen in 2016. Curiosity about embodying her own anatomy has led her to study with Donna Farhi and Amy Matthews, and her interest in Buddhism is guided by Michael Stone. Nicole has amassed over 300 hours of additional workshops and training and over 1,500 hours of teaching, and is always looking for opportunities to continue to refine her skills. In assisting the Living Yoga Teacher Training and Somatics trainings in Dublin, Nicole has opened up the door to further growth as a teacher.
Within her practice, much has changed from her early days of fiery Ashtanga practice. As her knowledge has grown, not only through trainings but from countless hours on the mat, Nicole has found that it is the continual investigation and reconnecting to body and breath that is fascinating rather than any particular rules or sequence. That is the spirit that drives her on.
In the last few years, in an effort to deal with lingering back pain, Nicole has embraced strength training. In 2022 She did a training with Kathryn Bruni Young and has been offering small group training at the studio since. Taking on the knowledge of how strength is built has become a new colour in her paint box of movement practices.
