I am looking forward to teaching Pilates at Abhyasa as I have found that Pilates can play an important part in not only improving fitness but bringing a greater sense of wellness.
Last year I decided to embrace the opportunity of a new career after working as a doctor in the health service for 30 years, with the last 14 years based in the breast surgery unit at Belfast City Hospital. I have trained as a teacher of Mat Pilates and have a special interest in how Pilates can help prevent osteoporosis as we grow older and help improve survivorship following a cancer diagnosis.
When I turned 50, I was feeling older, with aches and pains, an increasing waistline and higher levels of stress.
Pilates not only helped with managing stress but enabled me to move better, improve muscle strength and lose weight. I have completed a 100 km walk around the Isle of Wright and completed my first half marathon this year.
Joseph Pilates said, “You will feel better in ten sessions, look better in twenty sessions, and have a completely new body in thirty sessions.”
I hope that Pilates can help you build a stronger core and a body that moves better but will also enhance your sense of well-being.
